A New Writing Series that helps students write in a way that makes writing easy!

Budding Authors was created to help students write. Many students are given instruction to go write about "horses" or "vacation" or something abstract with little to help them. This series is designed to help the student by providing pictures, words and/or questions to write about.

Each one is unique in layout and design. Stepping into Writing is currently the first book in the series. This book will help your learner develop thinking skills, verbal expression and vocabulary. Adventures in Writing is the second book. Its uses story prompters in several different ways. Then and Now is the third book. This book takes the next step into writing paragraphs with story prompters.

The newest book in the series is Writing U.S. History. This book eases your writer into the skill of researching a topic.

NOTE: It is probably best to start Stepping Into Writing about HALF-WAY through the Expedition With Vowels level of The Scaredy Cat Reading System and move into Adventures In Writing somewhere around Lesson 2 or 4 of the Excursion Into Words level.

1. Stepping Into Writing

This book will help your learner develop thinking skills, verbal expression, and vocabulary. It will prepare him to leap into writing once he has better reading and spelling skills.

Make writing fun by praising creative and well thought out ideas, good sentences, good spelling, pleasant handwriting, and their original use of words.

  • Dictation
  • Experience Stories
  • Dictionary Building
  • CPS columns to help the student check for Capitalization, Punctuation and Spelling errors in his writing.

2. Adventures in Writing

Adventures uses story prompters to assist the student in writing his story. Two of the prompters in this level come in the form of two different word boxes. One with easier words and one with more challenging words. These words can be used in numerous ways. As an example the student might have to use all of the words in his story, or as a really challenge can't use any of those words! The options are numerous.

Another prompter is a picture that stimulates the imagination of the student. Engaging your student prior to writing will also help your student to answer questions about the picture in his story.

There are also blank pages in the back for you or your student to add your own pictures and word lists.

3. Then and Now

This volume of the Budding Authors Series will help your student perfect the art of writing a paragraph. Depending on the skill level of your student you may discuss topics like: indenting, summarizing and sentence order in a paragraph.

Then and Now uses story prompters that ask comparative questions about things from the past to how they are now. The pictures are mostly from the early 1900's showing things like milk being delivered, horse with plow and vintage cards. The student is asked to write comparatively between the past and present.

4. Writing U. S. History

In this volume of the Budding Authors Series, your bourgeoning author will ease into and make strides with the skill of researching a topic. He will be writing about events in American History.

The word box accompanying each picture will give enough detail to assist the student in beginning his research. Not only are the events in chronological order, but the date and important names are supplied. More research will need to be done, however, to fill in enough details to make the writing interesting and complete.

It is expected that your learner is already used to writing in paragraphs before beginning this level. If that is not so, you may need to move back to the volume called Then and Now where that skill is introduced.
